About Hardface Notes
An independent editorial reference on metal finishing, published under its own name at an address that used to belong to someone else.
Who publishes this
Hardface Notes is written and edited by a small editorial team that signs collectively as "the Hardface Notes editors". There is no individual byline, because no single named engineer stands behind these pages and inventing one would be dishonest. Editorial contact is contact@wear-cote.com and it is read.
We are not a plating shop, a chemical supplier, a laboratory or a consultancy. We sell nothing, we take no advertising from finishing suppliers, and we do not recommend a vendor. That is the only reason a reference like this can be written the way it is: nothing here has to make a process look better than it is.
What this site is not
It is not a substitute for a standard. Where a specification such as ASTM B733 or MIL-DTL-5541 governs a coating, the drawing must call out that document, and the document itself has to be obtained from its issuing body. Our notes give the designation, the scope and the public context; they do not reproduce text that is sold.
It is not evidence about any real part. The illustrations on this site are produced images of generic finishing scenes. They show what a tank, a rack or a test cabinet looks like in general. They are not photographs of a documented shop, a documented part or a documented certificate, and they are never offered as proof of a fact.
Where the material comes from
The notes are compiled from public reference literature on autocatalytic plating and surface treatment, from the scope statements of the standards that govern these coatings, and from the published descriptions of the acceptance tests. Nothing here is measured by us. When a source is a single account, or when the published values disagree, the note says so in the sentence rather than in a footnote.
Editorial contact is contact@wear-cote.com. Corrections are the most useful mail we receive: send the page, the value and the source, and the text is changed.
